i am looking at several variations that will protect the ring gear area, the bottom and the ring gear area, and the ring gear, bottom and joints. and WILL NOT affect ground cleanance.

1/4" plate along with their design is a step towards protecting the rear roto flex or u-joint conversion.

That's why I said "slightly". It does some, but still pretty easy to drop off a ledge and slam your front u-joint.
