Yeah hook it up to the charger and see if it's just your battery being low.

Do i need to have the codes cleared or will it clear itself if it is a battery issue after it has a proper charge??

I'm wondering the same thing. I took my rover to the dealer for this issue, I have extended warranty, and they charged me 200 bucks "labor" (135 for diagnostic fee + labor) plus 125 for the new battery. The battery was shot.

If it is low voltage then everything will be fine once the battery is charged up. I just replaced my battery last week, every now and again when the battery got real low then the M and S lights came on, they went away after charging. This is of course assuming you don't have a loose ground or something else.

New battery (785 cca!) and codes cleared and we are back in action! The codes did in fact need to be cleared in order for it to come out of limp mode
