Default Camshaft recommendations

I have a 1999 Disco2 4.0 V8.

Can anyone recommend any aftermarket camshafts (also tappets, timing, other parts etc) that will improve engine performance and efficiency etc, and/or are generally superior to OEM in some way?

I've heard of Crane, Wedge, and Piper, but other than checking out thier websites, don't know much about them etc.

I've also heard of using an OEM 4.6 camshaft in a 4.0 engine, but I understand the 4.6 cam will wear out rather quickly etc.

Any suggestions and/or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Thomas

Contact Mark at D&D D&D Fabrications: MGB V8 Conversion Products and he can give you some options. I was going to go this route on a rebuild I completed on a 4.6 but decided against for various reasons non that you have indicate as to why you'd like the make the change. Your looking at about $500-$600 for the cam/lifters/timing set. Mark is very knowledgeable on this engine and will guide you in the right direction.

There is/was a guy on here who did what you want to do, his truck runs so bad he is going to have to put a OEM cam back in.

Did he ever figure out why it runs so badly and what he did wrong?

Or is he going back to an OEM cam because he doesn't know and/or couldn't figure out why?

I called D&D Fabrications, spoke to Mark, and they have a complete level 2 performqnce upgrade camshaft kit (lifters/timing/lube/instructions/etc) for $575 plus shipping, for Disco2 4.0 and 4.6 Bosch V8. Mark also said they'll refurbish/recondition a pair of rocker shaft assemblies for $250.

Cheers,

Thomas
