I bought a Disco 1 metal front bumper and with a little bit of a mod, it fitted beautifully to my disco 2 (Import and tax would make a new metal disco 2 bumper around 2k making a 2nd hand disco 1 metal bumper at $100 very appealing). The thing is it came with a winch which will not fit unless I chop off the support under the radiator (see attached). With the metal bumper instead of the plastic I feel that the lateral stiffness of the vehicle has been improved alot but before I get rid of this piece, I thought I would suggest it to the more learned participants of this forum. All input gratefully received.
I have just installed a similar bumper on my D2, if you look at that member the question you need to ask is this member I want to remove Structural to the stiffness and rigidity of my chassis,
I think the answer is not its not, so cutting it of will not reduce the strenght of your chassis, an if you check out page 77-1-1 of the RAVE manual, its not shown as part of ther chassis
Thank you very much for your learned advice. Why didn't I think to read the RAVE?! I'll chop it off this afternoon and get back to you if the body falls off!
Ting, before you cut it off, try and leave a two short section either end so you can refit the Rad plastic cover , other wise you will not have any holes to put the location feet on the Rad cover into

Yes when I cut mine for the TF front bumper I left like 6inches on each side. Or when you look at it from the sides you'll see the extra layer of metal under it. I cut it just past that so use that as a guide.
