A misfire solution
Howdy🤠
I have posted on this forum multiple times asking about misfires and backfires that I had on my D2. Did everything that was said to do, and even got the heads re-built (I was going to do it anyway). After taking the valley pan gasket off and turning over my camshaft, it was smooth in the misfiring cylinders! Switched it out and since I was doing the work even pulled and cleaned oil pan.
Just wanted to say thanks to you guys and give a little insight with info that might help someone else.
TL;DR replaced my camshaft and that fixed my misfire and backfiring D2

New crankshaft and misfires go away? strange yet interesting
..and it was original to the engine and vehicle?...and engine never rebuilt (like a C-rod in backwards)... sure it was not a valley gasket leak? or some wiring that got moved?

I've had that happen before! Which is why I guessed you might mean Camshaft... Do you know why your camshaft wore down? Probably a good thing to figure out or it could happen again... In my case it was a combination of broken oil pump and incorrect oil in engine... Dealer broke in engine with 5w30 Castrol Synthetic... Which is what they used at that time in the then current LR3 and L322's. This all happened before I knew of this forum and what the correct oil was... I believed the dealer knew better, but they apparently did not. I was told by one dealer and two indy shops that I needed a new engine for $9000!! Luckily I found an honest indy shop who replaced the cam shaft and oil pump gears for a much more reasonable price. That engine then went on for another 120k miles.

I didn't really think that far, but the guy I bought it from said he took it to a shop and they wanted $3000 to fix it. I'm guessing they didn't even know what was wrong. I rebuilt the pump and broke it in with straight 30w with zinc additive, was told by a mechanic to use this for a couple of hundred miles then switch to the Rotella T4 stuff. So far so good.
Now that makes sense. NICE fix! But you have to wonder where all that metal ended up........Also, did you replace the lifters? new cam = new lifters
