Angry Can I save this Discovery II or send it to junk yard ?

I bought a 2003 Discovery off craigslist for $2000 from a guy that looked like OJ Simpson who claimed it needed a power steering pump. I installed new power steering pump and it ate it up within 5 minutes. I then noticed harmonic balancer wobbling. I removed it with ease as the 24mm bolt was not even torqued. After further inspection I notice the harmonic balancer hub is cracked in the key slot and has spun on the crank, the woodruff key looks flush with the crank like it is sheared off. So is this even fixable or should I just junk it?

How many miles on the truck? How'd the rest of the truck in terms of condition? I've seen used engines for as low as $500 so depends on how much effort you want to get it up and running.

Or just find a new crank?

It has 171,000 and it seems to run good, no knocking or smoking, considering doing timing chain set, oil pump gears, and replacing the woodruff key, but don't know if it's worth it, or what other damages that balancer could have caused.

If the crank snout isn't mangled, you should be able to get the broken piece of the key out with a punch and hammer, and clean it up with emory cloth.
A new or used balancer pulley, and it should be ok.
The bolt needs 200' lbs.
Lots of people think they can just get it tight and it's ok.
Some get lucky...others have your problem, or worse damage. A drop of medium thread locker is a good idea too.

Oil pump IS a good idea while you're right there at it too.
I wouldn't junk the truck, it sounds like it just needs minor repairs, like they all do.
It is 15 years old.

Thanks for the replies, the crank snout is not damaged, just was not sure if that woodruff key was replaceable, I bought a used damper from eBay and sent it to the damper doctor to get it redone for $213

You can get the woodruff key for a few dollars, no big deal.

It's worth replacing the W key part#: ERR2846(G) & most vendors will have them in stock.
> Key Crankshaft Chainwheel (Genuine Part # ERR2846 ) - Land Rover block from Atlantic British
