YEAH!! I was texting him back and forth...He was clueless because his mom is the one who owns it and bought it new..She is an older retired lady that didnt want to deal with selling it.....The guy said she always took it to land rover if any problems and just came back from a "check-up" !! I will go look at it and do normal checks then offer 5,000 if everything check out

4x4 works never been used....

I don't think the guys was clueless. His wording is just wrong. If the car indeed belonged to his mom and she bought it new and only had it serviced at LR, then what I think he meant to say was that his mom never took it off-roading.

I'd inspect for the usual stuff; leaks, props, brakes, coolant, all fluid flushes at regular intervals, etc. I would then ask to see all service records.

$4 a gallon at 12mpg can be a high price tag for your daughters to have to pay at the pump; assuming they pay for their own gas. You're right, they are safe cars and the coolness factor is off the charts. Hope it pans out in your favor.

That truck is primed for a head gasket failure, and very likely needs the front drive shaft rebuilt/replaced.

It does look nice and 'gramdma driven' is usually a plus.

I think he means low range has never been used. They're in permanent 4x4 high and low. I'd get the low range changed down whilst inspecting it as they have to be regularly used to stay working otherwise the linkage may seize up.

Otherwise it looks in good condition as far as just glancing at photos. An overall inspection underneath and the other parts mentioned already is a must. Again everything is relative to cost and if you're paying top dollar it has to be perfect in every respect. Also find out where the servicing was done and get a report from them to see what has been repaired and whether all the recalls have been done. Don't compromise as LR's are expensive to fix and even if you do the work yourself the parts aren't cheap.

$4/gal or £2.50/gal...................I wish , it's £1.30 - £1.35 a litre in the UK and there's 5 of them to a gallon. Petrol in France is €1.55/litre and more on the autoroutes. Any vehicle over 2.0L in Europe is a 'luxury' vehicle and V8's are for the oil sheiks, seriously rich, fanatics or the plain stupid.

I bought my land rover at auction. No inspection or anything it was basically russian roulette with a rover. glad to say the worst I've had happen (knock on wood) was the throttle body heater plate needing to be replaced.

watch for the oil pump vin

I bought my garage kept, dealer serviced, '03 at 93k miles. I'm now at 106k. Never had HG's or propshaft done yet. I realize they are potentially ready, but I try not to stress over these things until they show signs of needing attention. I do pay very close attention to the propshaft, because I'm aware of the potential damage they can do (ie: Noise, Vibration, Visual).
