Default Cant decide on snorkel or reg cold air intake

I own a 2000 Disco 2, It was given to me by my father and I am in the process of restoring/upgrading it. I want to upgrade to a cold air intake. I Figured that a snorkel would be the safe bet, but I don't really like the look; especially since I think dust and water wont be a big issue for me. Could I just order a cold air intake kit and shield instead? I'm really just looking for input on peoples experience with either or recommendations you have. Is there anything I should look out for?

They have cold air from the factory. Don't waste your money.

Yes, here's something to look out for, sellers or friends that claim an aftermarket "cold air intake" is an improvement over the factory setup. Drawing outside air in through the fender is going to be colder than anything under the hood, shield or not.

You can upgrade the intake tube but I wouldn't replace the factory air box. The paper filter filters much... MUCH better than a cotton element filter (K&N style), and allows plenty of air for what these engines want. Speaking from experience. Even an intake tube, gains will be minimal if noticeable at all other than you'll hear a little more intake noise. I like that on some of my vehicles, not so much on others.

Alex, Im having trouble finding an intake tube. Can you point me in the right direction? Also are you recommending upgrading the air intake hose tube or pipe duct hose as well?

This is to replace the woven flex hose between the airbox and fender.

Measure the ambient temperature and the intake air temperature as stock.
Then install your 'upgrade cold air intake'. Measure temperatures again on same conditions. Got a few degrees difference ? Be happy. Got no difference? Your wallet is skinnier.
The thing is MEASURE ! not just believe the intake air is colder if you buy this, that or the other because someone said so.

I have a snorkel, chiefly because I like the look. I use an Ultragauge, and intake temps remain high with snorkel - in my opinion once you get under that hood, it doesn’t much matter what type of intake you are using. I agree with previous posts that stock air filter is more than adequate. Let’s face it, inlet air temps are the least of your worries with a Disco. If this mod makes you happy, do it. But save some money for the things that will get you the most bang for your buck, and might just save your truck.

This is a great, inexpensive kit. No brainer for me.
