Default Cant get rid of engine tick on new motor!!

I have a 2003 D2 with 125k

i've had the engine rebuilt because of a sound that i cant seem to figure out.

its deffinatly a tick or upper valvetrain sound. i think its due to oil pressure . when the car is cold i have no sound when it warms up... i get the sound. i can deffinatly hear it more on the passenger side front lifter area i have a new oil pump/timing cover i'm running 20w50 with lucas. and i'm using a m204 mobil 1 filter.

roller rocker shafts are new as are pushrods, lifters and timing chain.

i reused the old cam and cam bearings because my engine guy said they were fine.

motor drives great on throttle and i only get the sound at idle to 1500 rpm.

can a converter do that, make that kind of sound?

also i was having oil pressure issues 8psi at hot 2k rpm

i was hoping installing to new oil pump would take care of that.

anyone have ideas on oil pressure or what can cause the noise

Yes a bad cat can cause that sound.
Did you use new rocker arms?

I have that same tick that you described. I can only hear it untill around 1500 rpms. I bought my disco with about 60k miles on it and it had the slight tick. At around 100k I had the headgaskets done, lifters, and a couple of rocker arms that the mechanic said looked bad. After picking it up from the mechanic I noticed that the damn tick is still there. It is only noticeable when the windows are down with something next to me or outside it. I hate the noise but I figure that I am just going to have to deal with it untill I have to rip the motor apart again. Next time I will replace the cam along with all of the rockers but I still don't know if that will even fix it. Most discos that I have seen seem to have a slight tick. We should start a poll to see who has it and who doesn't. Maybe it will help you to know that others are in the same boat with you.

I used to until I did my head gaskets and cleaned everything out and switched to 15W-50 mobil 1. I did not rebuild anything. No idea what it was caused by but it sounded like a diesel engine. Sounds like a normal V8 now.

Whats your oil prssure now? If its still 8psi @ 2000 I would look at the pressure release in the front cover....Easy to remove and clean..
remove the snap ring, use a large punch and tap on the solid plug until it slides out, an o ring holds it sometimes... Its spring loaded so it might come out with out any tapping needed. Clean everything, lube with cam lube/eos or whatever. Try it.. I bet you he find a broken spring or just mucked up....Test the pressure before and after.

front cover is new as is the oil pump.... exhaust is new also all the bolts and exhaust gaskets... including flange bolts.

i think my mechanic should have replaced the cam bearings when he had the chance!!!!

i dont know my oil pressure because my oil guage doesnt have the proper fitting to tap into the sending units threads
