Default CATALYTIC CONVERTER 98 DISCO

HEARD A TICKING NOISE FROM VEHICLE AND TOOK IT IN TO MECHANIC TODAY, THEY TOLD ME THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS SHOT, CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THIS PART COSTS (MECHANIC TOLD ME $1,030 FOR PARTS & $160 FOR LABOR) IT HAS 109,000 MILES ON IT AND IS SERVICED REGULARLY, IS THIS A NORMAL PART TO BE SHOT @ THIS MILEAGE?

yes they do go bad. To be honest with you if your state doesnt have emmissions then just cut the catalytic converter off. If your state does have emmisions or if you really want to get it fixed, then find one not made by land rover that will fit. I was about to use one off of an old gmc jimmy but i decided to just cut mine off.

Washington state does have emissions, your's would be OBD 2 readiness codes.
With the cat's taken off, it would throw a check engine light which would fail emissions.
Check some of the suppliers posted on this site, I think they sell for about $699 for the Y-pipe with both cat's.
Plus your truck would run like crap due to the O2 sensor behind the cat's.
