Cdl
I am sure someone has asked this, but does the 2003 have the CDL in the T-case or do I need to buy a 2004 with the linkage?
I have been wheeling for almost 25 years, but this is the first Rover I have ever wheeled.

If you had read Josh's write up you would see that your case can be modified, adding the CDL and linkage.
Before you do anything check your front drive shaft, making sure there is 1 grease fitting on all 3 u-joints or rebuild it adding a new centering ball at the same time.
Then consider following my major service list posted at the top of the D2 section.

I have replaced the front driveshaft with one that has been rebuilt, $225, with serviceable grease fittings and a new centering ball. I am working on the services you have laid out Mike. It only has 90k miles on it and I guess the T-case is in good shape, so I could save some cash by just doing the front swap. It is not my everyday driver, 2011 Sorento with CDL :P, so if it is down for a couple of days it is no big deal.
I just checked that out. I don't think you get the shifter/linkage with it though right?
I'm in the same boat as you Kalel, no CDL....I sure wish there was a cheaper option. Swapping in a '99.5-'01,'04 T-case seems to be the cheapest, but also has risk involved with buying/installing an "unkown" transfer case.
