Going to have to get back under her and fiddle with cable adjustment a bit. Shifts from standard to CDL fine, but the Hi to Low is not functioning properly.

Think I figured out the problem with the HI/LOW engagement...

According to RAVE...

2003 and Later Vehicles
Transfer box interlock solenoid - Automatic gearbox vehicles
An interlock solenoid is fitted for North America and Japan. The solenoid is located on the top of the transfer box main casing on vehicles up to 03 model year or on the selector lever assembly on vehicles from 03 model year. The solenoid is connected to the transfer box relay which, in turn, is controlled by the IDM. The purpose of the solenoid is to prevent neutral being selected on the transfer box when the ignition key is removed, thereby locking the box in either high or low ratio.

A second boss provides for the location of the high/low range cable. The cable is attached to a plate which moves in a forward or rearward direction with the selector lever. On North American and Japanese specification models, plate movement is prevented by an interlock solenoid when the ignition key is not in the ignition.

When fitted, the interlock solenoid is located on the right hand side of the selector lever casting. The solenoid is fitted into a cast housing in the casting and retained with a circlip. Sealant is applied over the circlip to seal the solenoid in the housing to prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture. The solenoid performs the same function as on previous models, preventing the selection of neutral on the transfer box when the ignition key is not in the ignition.

So, that solenoid is present on my 2004 Shift Assembly that I installed and there is a loose connector that comes off of it...

Anybody know where that connector plugs in?

RAVE Says...

7. Models fitted with high/low shift interlock solenoid: Position interlock solenoid harness to high/low shift cable, fit sleeve around cable and harness and secure sleeve.

8. Models fitted with high/low shift interlock solenoid: Connect solenoid multiplug to main harness and secure multiplug to bracket.

I'm wondering if that connection doesn't exist on the Main Harness on my 2000 and if I should just pull that interlock solenoid off the shifter bracket.

My guess is that without the electronic signal to that solenoid, it's locking out my ability to shift from HI/LOW.

Thoughts?

You need to pull the solenoid off the 2004 assembly. There is a c-clip that holds it in place. Remove the clip and cut the wire. It will pull right out.

Thanks... That's what I thought.

Hopefully I can do that from underneath the truck without disassembling the whole damned center console again...

Looks like I might have to pull the plate off that catches the pin on the solenoid to be able to get it out, as it looks like it comes out from the pin side, rather than from the back.

Well, this snow gave me the opportunity to test out the CDL tonight.

AWESOME!

Pulls like crazy and if you get on it going around a corner, you get this nice predictable and controllable four wheel drift.

What a hoot!

Best Mod Ever!

Ended up just modifying the plate that catches the pin rather than removing the solenoid... No way to get the solenoid out without taking the center console back out (will avoid that as much as is possible as that is a pain in the ***) and removing the shift assembly as there is just no room to get the c-clip out while everything is installed.

I was easily able to remove the linkage plate and cut off the part that catches on the pin with a band saw and then I used a grinder and 1" wide belt sander to finish matching the radius of the main part of the plate so that it would miss the solenoid pin. I also just cut the wire to it.

Low range can now be engaged and I have CDL capabilities in High and Low range now.
