Same here, added linkage, moved hi-lo forward, light came on. 2001 SD.

Here is the relevant SLABS-related info.

With a '99-'02 SLABS:
The '03-'04 SLABS was designed to be used with CDL, so that if the CDL is engaged when the truck is started the Three Amigos are not triggered.

I know of two versions of the '03-'04 SLABS. They are part numbers SRD000150 and SRD500070. The SRD500070 is considered the Holy Grail of SLABS. It was the final version and is reputed to have the best programming to enable the CDL and TC to work together, better than prior SLABS.

I thought I'd hit pay dirt a few years ago when I pulled the SLABS from an '04 boneyard truck. Alas, it was the SRD000150. It works well as far as I can tell.

I have one holy grail SLABS and the 150 SLABS and both work well. I did notice a difference in switching from the original 99-02 SLABS. TC seems to kick in quicker and it's not supposed to be as touchy at triggering the 3 Amigo's while off road or on road.

Was unable to finish it off today ( I hate working I the dark)

. Should be done tomorrow if I get home at a decent time. Hopefully I cut enough of the base plate out to clear the shifter. Looks close (see pic). I also removed the center lock solenoide as recommended.

        • If the CDL is engaged when the truck is started the Three Amigos are triggered and traction control is disabled. ABS and HDC operate normally.
        • This can be avoided by cutting the BU wire on SLABS connector C0506. This is described well in step 20 of this write-up. www.discovery2.co.uk/Factory Diff Lock More SLABS-related info is at the end of the write-up.

I see SRD000150 and SRD500070 and SRD00070 for sale on the web, but what Im not clear on, is the date? They all seem to be dated 01'-02'?? Are these still the correct ones to buy? I haven't seen an 03'-04' dated SLABS.

Everyone seems to pull the same misleading information when they list a SLABS box. The info given by mln01 is accurate: SRD000150 and SRD500070 are from 2003-2004 trucks.
The brake programming does seem to have changed significantly between the early SRD000070 box and the later ones. My 500070 lights up the brake warning thanks to a shuttle valve fault whereas the 000070 box ignored it. Even so, the pedal feel and braking performance are noticeably different after the upgrade.

If it’s not dated 03+ it’s not the proper SLABS unit. A lot of them on Ebay are in fact wrong and you’ll just end up with what you already have. The date code is on every unit. I’d have the vendor take a pic of it & if they won’t = go somewhere else.

Yes, that's what I thought about the date code. Thanks

I didn't cut the blue/black wire when I did my linkage install a few years ago, after going back and reading about it again, I may just do that. It is annoying getting the 3 amigos on start up if you leave the CDL locked, AND the traction control light/buzz indicator on the dash is annoying also. I've proven many times out in the bush that traction control fails compared to just locking the CDL.
