Whew. Thank you for preserving my sanity for the next week before I get back out to the truck.

At any rate, a dremel is your best bet now.
My mistake, I should have done that in the first place.

Thanks for this info! I didn't know this little detail, but it's a welcome bit of good news since I was never very happy with the modification I made to the plate on my '99.
Interesting that the plate should allow for the lock function in the 2003 trucks. Possible indication that they were already planning to reintroduce the CDL when they did the facelift -- otherwise Rover would likely have retained the plate from the earlier years in 2003.

No, I didn't. The junkyard truck had SLS and mine has coil springs and from what I have read I would have to reprogram it.

Reprogramming wouldn't be a big deal for the SLS as all it would do = idiot light. However the benefits are Plug & Play for CDL to operate just like an 04, and you get much better firmware for the ABS/TC/HDC. If you can I'd personally go back and grab the SLABS Unit vs cutting wires to make the CDL work IMHO.

Some 03's in other markets (non US actually had CDL) so that's why the plate & SLABS were CDL ready. I've only come across 1 03 that had the older 99-02 plate and that was due to it being a very early produced 03. Besides that all were identical to 04's that I've messed with.

Good advise! Much better than the wire cutting method or trying to remember to disengage the lock before you shut the truck off.

Yep the 03/04 SLABS is well worth it. I have one in my 99 & 02 D2 and the CDL functions just like an 04 in every way. The #14 3/4 screws are also a very smart move vs the rivets. Only other thing I personally do is also go with the 04 Interlock solenoid vs the 94-02 design. It requires more work (removing original from the TC and sealing it back up), but once again something that is a plus with the 04 setup vs the earlier design. Makes it very simple to bypass if the interlock solenoid fails out on the trail leaving you in 4Lo.

The donor that I got cdl linkage is no longer available, but the next time I spot a 2004 disco I will definitely grab the SLABS. Correct me if I'm wrong but since I'm going to install 2004 linkage, I will have two interlock solenoids (one inside transfer case and one outside). Is this setup viable or should I remove the one that is inside of the transfer case? I looked into the manual and it doesn't seem that difficult to remove the solenoid once the center console is removed.

I'd disable/delete the one in the TC and use the 04 interlock solenoid personally. You have wiring for one (both use the same plug) so simply choose which one you want to use and bypass the un-used one accordingly. 03-04 SLABS = CDL compatible, it does not have to come from an 04. However 99-02 SLABS are not CDL ready and require you to cut a wire at the SLABS unit or you'll get the 3 AMIGO's if you engage CDL, turn off the D2, and then re-start it. With the 03-04 CDL it's plug & play 100%.
