Default CDL kit install

Hello All,

I am thinking of buying this CDL . How hard is it to install? I would fabricate a custom handle to go with it. Any thoughts?

Thanks

you can buy a kit with the handle and all too.... or you could track down i D1 at a junkyard and yank the linkage out...

Where are you located, there are better prices on the CDL diff. Also you will still need to go to someplace like landroverparts.com, click on t/case, click on parts and linkage. These parts you will also need.
How mechanical are you?

Well where I live there aren't any junked land rovers.... lol

What about installation? Has anyone done this before? How would installing this affect my TC if any? I assume I don't have the plug(s) that would tell the ecu that diff lock has engaged.....

Disco Mike - You replied before i got to finish the post! I'm 95% positive that with my mechanical knowledge I could do this install. I live in the virgin islands so i dont have access to other Land rovers, parts, or shops I trust. I do ALL work myself and have done so for the past few years.

I want the ability to lock my t/c...and seeing as LR thought it unnecessary to have it in 03's, I'm SOL.

So... I dont know what ALL I need. I know I can either get the front output housing off a locking t/c like in my 1st post, or a complete locking T/C. Is there a third way?

THEN....how do I get the computer(s) to know when it is locked. Getting it locked once i have it is the least of my concerns... I wont mind using a wrench or paying for the 04 setup....but having it all work is MY unknown.

If you know your Transfer case is good, and has agood milage, then I persoanlly would add the Front output housing CDL to your case, that way you know its history. You could obviously buy a complete case with a CDL already, but do you know what your getting condition wise ???

If a whole case coems up at a good price, or similar to the kit you posted in cost AND its a good case with history etc, then its probably "easier" to swap the whole thing then sell yours on to recoup some of the money you spent, hell you might even get back what you spent!!.....

the "computers" or SLABS ECU has no probs with a CDL install, it just works, the issue to be considered is whether or not you cut the wire to the SLABS ECU so it does not disable the TC if you start the truck with the CDL engaged. Its not a big issue, but a pain in da *** if you ask me so mines cut and behaves like they do out the factory.

All the details ref this are on my webpage under Factory Diff lock.

Urban Panzer,

So if I understand this right......

Without cutting any wires, If I have the CDL kit installed and I decide to "engage" it, my SLABS ECU will recognize this and show me on the dash board that I'm locked and my TC will kick in if needed and work just fine?

BUT if I turn off the disco and turn it back on with CDL STILL engaged, it will DISABLE TC?

And in addition you are saying that if I wanted TC to work on start up, i would have to cut the wires on SLABS ECU like you did?

???

And in addition you are saying that if I wanted TC to work on start up, i would have to cut the wires on SLABS ECU like you did? YES , But, if you then simply switch of the truck, dis-engage the CDL and restart, then all is back to normal.

As I said its not a big "issue" just a pain, if you for example "stall" your truck whilst offroad, you immediately restart the car, but if the CDL is in, then you will disable the TC, cutting the wire just means the car never cares whether the CDL is in or out when you start so the TC is NEVER disabled.
In Additon, when the TC is disabled because of above, the HDC and ABS lights will be lit, butthe HDC and ABS do function, but at reduced parameters, so you dont have them at 100% either.

???
