Default CDL linkage from 04

How hard is it to remove the much sought after CDL shifter/linkage from an 04? Would the truck still be driveable without it? Links to a write-up?

yes the truck would be drivable, just no way to go from high to low or lock the transfer case.

Why would you want to remove it?

Not removing it from my truck, but from one I'm semi-parting out. I figured it's something I can pull fairly easily and lots of guys are always looking for that '04 setup...

You will Need to pull "all" the linkage with it. There is a writeup on how to install one on here if you search for it. You could just look at that and see the steps. It is easier to install if you take the cover on the xfer case with the linkage and swap it for the one without. The cover on the xfer case is tricky to get off but not impossible. Reseal with RTV gasket goop. There are rivets around the plate of the shifter handle. I drilled them out and then drilled and tapped holes with flat head screws in place of the rivets. Also to pull console out there is a video in the stickies about adding a cable shifter. I would recommend this shifter over the mechanical shifter if you have a bunch of money.
About 2 days work. One to remove them and one to replace them. If you are a contortionist maybe a day day and a half.
A Land Rover without Low range is a expensive to run grocery getter
Here is alink for a install on a manual transmission but the xfer is the the same

Cool I never looked at the 04. Is it (like) an Ashcroft? That looks much easier to remove and install
