Default CDL Question

I just started the very addictive modification stage on my '99 DII. (HD OME kit to be delivered today and new tires and wheels installed by the end of week... anyone want to buy some 18's????)

So as I scour all the forums for ideas, thoughts, opinons etc... I ran across a CDL question...

CDL = Center Differential Lock..right?

Did i read correctly that my '99 has the all the "guts" for a CDL but I may not have had that option on the vehicle hence no way to activate it?

Or am I totally confused!!!!

Your truck does have a CDL t/case that just needs to have an old D1 linkage hooked up to gain some great traction.

Mike, will the cdl improve traction ona DII if there's no mods to the axels? I've engaged mine one time and got stuck crossing a ditch, unlocked the cdl, trac control kicked in and pulled me right out.

So the expensive way is a kit that hooks up with cables and has a new shifter that takes the place of my current H -L shifter? ...from a 2004? I've seen one on expedition exchange...

I'm pretty sure the most common way, and probably one of the cheapest, is the shifter from a DI. I've seen many other generic ways to do it, but none really look "clean" enough for me.

There appears to be a 2004 retrofit kit on "expedition exchange"..https://www.expeditionexchange.com/discovery/........ scroll down about half way..........does this shifter take take the place of myoriginal one that only shifts from high to low and allow me to not only shift from high to low but lock the diff as well? has anyone done this retrofit with this kit?

You can go to, http://www.roverlandparts.com/index....S&Category=347
and buy either a D1 or the 04 shifter.
