Default CDL & SLABS Q's

I Installed the linkage from Lucky8 for the CDL in my Discovery 2 2000. I have the original SLABS unit installed and curious if I need to install a 03/04 SLABS. What happens if I don't? what are the perks and downsides? I know traction control is affected by the CDL and if the truck is turned on with the CDL engaged TC is disabled. I plan on putting a switch on the wire I was suppose to cut (I can't remember the exact wire) to enable and disable traction by a switch. Would this work?

03-04 SLABS is worth it for latest firmware and no wire cutting. Change the SLS/Coil to your preference & you are good to go.

I always grab the 03-04 SLABS whenever I do a CDL Upgrade on a 99-02 D2 (03 should just need the CDL TC unless the SLABS is dated 02).

The truck used to have SLS and now it has a 2 inch lift and I occasionally get a light on the dash (I find it amusing and rather like the light). What does the firmware update do the vehicle?

Better ABS/TC function and not so sensitive to 3 Amigos vs previous SLABS firmware revisions. I think they had somewhere from 3-4 different firmwares from 99-04.

I post this every time the question comes up but -- on my 2000 D2, swapping SLABS to either the 03 or 04 SLABS (used not new SLABS) does *not* work and I get all the warning lights and a PWM "pulse width modulation?" error code. Note my truck has ACE & SLS.

I tried 4 different 03 and 04 SLABS units known good. All the exact same issue.

This is documented on other forums and I'm not the only one but most people here in US market don't seem to have issues, I've gone down the rabbit hole to figure it out a few times with no luck. Ultimately, I believe there's a vin mismatch in the SLABS I can't get rid of or reset that I believe causes this. So I'm still running original SLABS in my 2000.

So it does not always work depending upon how the truck is optioned. Be advised. Before you put the ECU's back after swapping you may just want to let it hang there connected, and see if it works for you.

^^^ Absolutely vital to note that caveat. Apparently the swap doesn't work for everyone.

Thanks for that info Nash. I put an 03 SLABS in my 01 with no real issues. I don’t have SLS or ACE. A couple of times a year I get 4 amigos after a hard acceleration from stopped which doesn’t go away until I turn off the car for a couple of minutes. It’s nice having TC work when off roading and having left the CDL on when shutting down.

My 99 had SLS (I went to coils) but it still has ACE. 04 SLABS went right in. Might be a VIN # issue which a T4 might be able to correct.

With my older Foxwell NT-510 I was able to change the VIN on my newer SRD500070 SLABS unit from a TD5 to my SALTY V8 VIN.
You can’t do that on the Nanocom.
