Default CDL stuck in 4H

Finally got my disco 2 into some good dirt and mud, was a bitch getting into 4H but it worked great. Now I can't get it out of diff lock mode. Don't get mewrong, that tie fighter has me staying on target, but it's probably not great all around to be driving on the highway like this. Any tips are much appreciated.

4H is high range

You mean 4L? and you have the diff lock on? crawl under there and soak the linkage in Wd40, try wiggling back and forth

If CDL enable/disable is the issue I’d unbolt the linkage from the CDL nipple & manually rotate it on the transfer case to disable it, then I’d inspect the cable.

Driving at highway speeds with the CDL locked is going to trash your transfer case pretty quickly. There needs to be some slippage between the axles to allow for the slight differences between the rotational speeds.

The light may be a false positive; the light may be on even though the CDL is not engaged.

I had that happen several years ago, before I had the '04 transfer case shifter installed. I was driving in wet, snowy conditions and about an hour into my two-hour trip the CDL light came on. It remained on the rest of the trip but did not come back on the next day. I can only assume it must have been something about the snow and water, perhaps mixed with some road salt, that shorted out the circuit and caused the light to come on.

If the CDL is actually locked you'd be able to notice it right away on pavement when making a turn. I once forgot to disengage it after driving on the beach. It didn't take more that 50-100 feet on pavement to feel the tires slipping during a turn.

You want it in 4H. that is how you drive it on roads.

the centre diff linkage is separate, that is the right/left travel on the stick, there is NO N for diff lock.

Watch a youtube video about diff lock land rovers and just do that.

My CDL is stuck in 4H I can't get it to shift back to N. 2001 disco 2, the previous owner installed the CDL shifter/linkage. Still asking if anyone has tips or tricks for getting my CDL from 4H to N. Thanks.
