Default cel 2004 discovery

today when my wife was coming home from work the cel light came on while she was going up a hill.the light stayed on when she descended the hill, then the oil light came on and it stalled.i drove my truck out to where she stalled, checked oil ,coolant level.they were both good.i tried to start the disco and it turned over as it should(engine not seized, thank god)but would not fire.i tried this a couple more times with no luck.i then disconnected the battery for a few seconds and reconnected it.tried to start it again and voila!it started.engine sounded fine,no rattles,no smoke no noises out of the ordinary.
the tow truck came and i drove it up the deck and had it brought home, drove it off the deck and parked it in my drive way.no more warning lights or stalling.
apparently i reset the ecu by removing the battery connector and reconnecting it.

so why did this happen?i have read a lot about the 2003 oil pump issue but this was different than all of the posts i read regarding this issue.i am open to suggestions.tommorow i will get my friend to scan for codes.

btw it has 86,000 kilometers

thanks for your help

Default cel light 2004 disco update

my friend came over today with his code reader and there were no codes.i asked my wife when the oil light came on-before or after the engine stalled and she confirmed that it came on after it stalled as well as the battery light.this is normal for those lights to come on after it stalls or before it starts.i am pretty sure that oil pressure is not the issue.

so the question remains.why did the cel light come on and why did it stall and why no codes?

The light came on because there was a problem, same reason it stalled. There are no codes because you cleared all of them when you disconnected the battery. Not a good way to clear the codes.

I agree with Ok..., just want to add that the oil and battery light came on for the obvious reason that the engine was not running and the key was in the ignition position. No relation between the oil pressure and the CEL on this case. The bad thing is that now you have to wait until the light comes on again to record the code.

i do not have the codes.the negative battery connection was very loose and slightly coroded.i cleaned up all the connections and charged the battery for an hour and it fired up no problem.i may purchase my own obd11 scanner and leave it in the disco to red the codes if this happens again.
thanks

M&S Llights when lit together, indicate in limp home mode for transmission. It can also throw a code as well, can't remember it off the top of my head. The can be caused by low voltage as well, which in your case could have been caused by the bad ground connection on your battery and also cause the vehicle to stall. The clamps on the battery cables do not fit all batteries very tight, I have interstates in both my rovers and have had to shim the cable on both, since it would not clamp down tight enough.
