Hey all,
I've got a Land Rover recently bought and i couldn't shift the diff. into low or lock.
So i took it apart with what i had, and i can get it into low now. i can also shift it into lock. However, in order to get it into lock, i have to use a screw driver to push it over. I hanv't put it back together yet. So my quetions is, do stock differentials have to be pushed down then shifted over as a saftey device or how can i un-seize this common problem? Also is there a lock for the 4 high aswell? Thanks so much!

I had the same problem this morning. It seems to have some resistance. But if you move the diff locks stationary, make sure you are on Neutral. If not, have the truck ease in walking pace then shift to N to lock.

well i have had it at the recommended 1-5 mph to engage and still having difficulites. What is causing this resistance and what can i do to fix it? Thanks

K, more specifically now
With the cover completley off i can see the problem
i can sucesfully move the gear to the left (lock) but when i go to bring it over to the right again to unlock the lever on the right that pulls the locking mechanism away doesn't move. I see there is a spring in the unit, but i cannot push down or pull up. Am i suppose to be able to push down to switch from gear to gear

what vehicle are you working on? DI or DII? and please retype what your issue is. I don't understand what exactly the problem is. forget the springs and crap. what is the truck NOT doing.
