Are you sure its leaking from the filter and not dripping down from somewhere else?

When I had the filter off I looked and it did not seem as if anything but the filter mounting area was wet. Is there someplace else I should look at? I'd hate to take the filter off again as I am a cheap *** and do not want to buy 6 more quarts of Mobil-1.

You dont need to repalce the filter or the oil again.
Just remove the filter being careful not to spill to much oil, make sure there is no dirt on the filter gasket and the block, reoil the filter gasket and then replace the filter, start the truck and check for leaks.
After you shut it back off then top it back off if needed.
Make sure that you always inspect the oil filter gasket before you put a new filter on and that you wipe the block and surrounding area clean and then use new oil, not used oil, to oil the filter gasket.

I will pull it again and check. I was very careful installing the new filter and checked and cleaned the seat too, I used new oil to lube the new filter seal as well. Hope thats all it is. I will get to that tomorrow after work.
Thanks for the advice Spike, I'll let you know what I find.

Yes I did, can not get it any tighter by hand and I am not putting a tool to it either.

First, that oil is pretty light for the summer heat, next time run a 10W/40 for better results.
As for the leak, pull the old filter, see if a second rubber o-ring seal is still stuck up inside the mount, if not, make sure all the bolts are tight that hold the oil filter housing on, also check the oil sending unit, one of theses things is causing your leak.

Mike,
Thanks for the the info.
The 5w40 was what the dealer told me to use and what they had in it when I bought it. I thought it was a little on the light side as well. As far as the seal goes, I know for a fact there was not one left on and I made sure I cleaned the seat too. I will check the mounting bolts and sending unit. Is the sending unit located above the filter?

5W40 should be OK. That being said I use 10W40 or 15W50 in the summer. If you have a strap wrench snug it up a bit, maybe a half turn past hand tight.
