Default Charging Problems

Hi All, I have a strange problem on my 95 Auto V8, the charge light goes out on start up, but only showing 11.5 volts at the battery with the engine running. Have checked all the fuses, all OK. My question is, isthis definately the alternator or should I be looking somewhere else??
Thanks in advance
Neil.

If this just started happening then I would say yes, it is the alternator going bad. Check your belt tension first, with the engine off push on the belt, is it tight?
You should start with the belt, if it is really worn replace it, if it is slipping the battery wont charge.

What is your voltage readingat the battery with the engine off? Have you had starting problems? 11.5 volts would be a pretty dead battery.

If your belt is tight and all your connections are clean and tight then it is time to run down to the local auto parts store and get it tested. You should have voltage from 13.6 to 14.4 volts.
