Call me crazy but why couldnt someone just build a deck on the roof or rack they're working with then setup a standard tent on it when they get to their camp spot?
You could then actually use the roof or rack to haul things while the tent is inside its small travel bag to and from the site.
I would be rather simple to tie down any tent so no worries there and you're always guaranteed a flat sleeping surface.

Just me thinking out loud...........I could be way off base

 

His truck is super clean and did a great job on both camper builds.....however I'm not giving up my solid front axle for something that will see a lot of time off pavement. Which means I'm stuck with my disco forever lol
