Default Check engine light

A little wile after doing a water crossing during a camping trip my motor started to cut out like it got water in it or something. Now the CEL is on. It has been running fine since however.

1995 100k miles 5speed
I took it to some auto parts places but they said they couldn't read the codes on it. Any way i can get the problem codes cleared?

Do you have the little LED indicator under the passenger seat?

You may have got an intermittent misfire when it got wet, that has now cleared itself now it's all dried out. A while back I was working on mine and forgot to plug the MAF back up after I was done. Noticed it as soon as I started it and stopped the motor and reconnected it. The check eng light still kept coming on though even though it was running fine. I had to disconnect the battery to clear the CEL (make sure you have your radio code 1st). After this it never came back on. You might be able to clear the code by disconnecting the battery and see if it comes back? If it does then look into finding out what the codes are? I left my batterydisconnected for at least 10 minutes.(Mine's a 95 5spd also)
