cracked blocked ???
Made it 1/4 mile from the shop and it’s going back on the tow truck. Lawsuit here I come. 3k later and it’s done g the same exact thing. And he wants another 6k to make it right.
Background.. a few months ago I posted about my car over heating. Idles forever. It when you drive it a quarter mile down the road it over heats and boils out the bottle. New Fans, new thermostat, new water pump, new radiator, new bottle, new cap, new hoses, now new head gaskets, he said. The sleeves looked good when he did the gaskets. But It’s doing the same thing. He said wel there must be a clog in the block. I’ll need another 6k to replace that too. I told him before he started on the head gaskets to double check and if it’s bad I’m trashing the car. I was gonna stop at 500.00. No more. He said it was going to be a good fix. I’m so pissed.

Who knows, these posts are normally a crap-shoot...since no one here knows the level of expertise of the mechanic involved...and a lot can get lost in translation.
Me, l'd bled it a couple more times, check for exhaust gases in coolant, look for bubbles in coolant reservior, read engine temps with lR gun, etc.

Being a mechanic...all l can say is...it's one of the worse parts of my job, following in the footsteps of another mechanic.
Was helping out a mechanic one time, diesel engine. He'd replaced all of the injectors, 6, and it wouldn't start, he pulls them again to inspect, installs them again, no start, so then he replaces the high pressure pump, no start, then he replaces the ECM, no start...then l stepped in as a favor...cause l believe he was about to be put on suicide watch...lol.
Anyway, l'm looking at what he's done...but like they say..."if you don't know where to start, go back to the beginning". So, l pull an injector. Injector looks good, brass seating washer in place. Look down in the injector bore...and what do l see...another brass washer from the original injector. He didn't pull the originals out...so...the injector height was wrong in the bore and fuel delivery ports didn't line up on all six cylinders.
Now, diagnosing something like that over the internet or through this forum...would be nearly impossible.
So, just like the post above...it's a crap shoot knowing what was done.

things like tires ball joints etc I don’t mind taking to a local guy. Even though the local shop really messed things up when I got them to install my center differential with a cdl one
even reputable shops sometimes don’t take the time to really address the customers requests
In the end, a car is a car. My mechanic usually fixes farm trucks and tractors. We are not trying to split the atom here.
A good LR tech will know the fix just by usually listening to the owner. It will get quickly handled and outta there. However that now days is almost a thing of the past because everyone is about #'s or $$$.
My best friend was a 25 year LR tech and when he did work on a customers RRC/D1/D2/D90 he'd either get a list of issues, or talk with the customer. Within minutes he was checking things, and usually within 5min half the list was resolved. You will not find that kind of skill at an automotive shop that works on domestic cars. Sure they might be able to fix it in a few days after researching it, but nah most of the time taking it to a true LR independent shop = night and day.
