While driving today i noticed a soft chirping / whistling noice coming from the dash in my Disco 2003, i turned off the heat and still it remained. I really didn't notice it until my three year old asked me whats that noise! Any clues? Caleb

 

maybe a vacuum line leak? or maybe an electric motor in the cd player or something? just a couple places I might check(or just listen too a little closer)also seen some posts about the U joints making noises like that before they fail I would check there first since that could be a big issue.

 

Are you sure it is not coming from your front drive shaft that are know to fail?
If inside the vehicle, I would suspect the blower motor that is always running and can get junk stuck in the blower cage.

 

I was going to suject the HVAC blower, turn off the HVAC and leave it off for 10 min or so.
Otherwise look into the blend doors.
If it only does it when moving then def the driveshaft, and if this is the case STOP DRIVING IT!

 

i had this happening to mine for quite awhile. a soft chirping sound from the passenger side of the dash. i looked all over and could not find anything.

so on a really cold day i started it up and cranked the heat/ defrost and went inside. when i came out a Seagull feather that was maybe 8" long was sitting on my floor along with some small twigs and some other crap. since then i have not noticed anything. so maybe like me you just have some junk in there.

 

No....these guys are all wrong. It's a bird. DUH!!!

 

 

no thats the little hampster under the dash that powers the car in his hampster wheel saying "quit driving so much I am getting old!!!!"

 

 

I have the same problem. Your blower motor is going south. It it an easy fix . takes about 15 min. but the motor is $$$$$$.
