I searched for an old thread on a transfer-case rebuild but I haven't come across it. I want to clean the inside of an old front output housing, along with the diff/hi-low gear shaft. I was thinking about sticking it in a parts washer but wouldn't the solvent strip the lubrication off everything, resulting in the need for assembly lube on shafts and moving parts? I don't know anything about it whatsoever but I can see dirt/dust particles and there is a dark, greasy coating that should be removed from the larger surface inside the housing. I'm not stripping these parts down anymore than what is shown in pictures, unless absolutely necessary. I don't see signs of major wear so a rebuild isn't needed.
