Clearing Pending Codes / Fuel Pump Tank Float

Clearing Pending Codes / Fuel Pump Tank Float
I have had a pending code P0134 on my 01 Discovery since it was purchased. I noticed this in my test drive, but as it was just pending I ignored it and waited to see if it would go away. Interestingly, in ~1200 miles of driving since the initial purchase, the code has not cleared. This has been over the course of a few months, few full tanks of gas, etc. Every time I turn on the truck, the Ultragauge beeps at me to announce the pending code. The truck runs fine, no SES lights or anything.
I do have a new thought as to the issue... is clearing pending codes related to filling the gas tank in its entirety? Either the float or the potentiometer is screwed up, and the fuel gauge never shows more than 2/3 or 3/4 of a tank. This would explain why the pending code would never have gone away - but only if the ECU is looking for a full tank as part of the criteria for clearing pending codes. If someone could confirm - that'd be terrific.
Assuming that's correct, a few other questions:
1. I presume that I need to replace the entire fuel pump to correct the issue with the float/potentiometer. Is that right?
2. Just out of curiosity.. how many miles do you guys usually get on a tank? I've been using the trip odometer to try and narrow down when I need to refuel. I've never seen the low fuel light (theoretically it should be working as it's just driven by the same voltage that drives the gauge itself), so I'm guessing I've always topped up in time. Obviously would prefer to avoid running the tank dry.
Thanks!

The fuel gauge does not accurately read and doesn't show a full tank (despite putting in enough fuel to fill it). My question is whether the truck needs the tank to register as full before it will clear pending codes.
Secondary question is around whether my fuel gauge fix is likely to be replacing the entire fuel pump vs. replacing some of the float components.

Pending codes can stick around forever if the battery isn’t disconnected. Clear all codes & then monitor it.
Fuel pump is like 54.00 so just replace it. The wires for the sensor probably got messed up or if any ethanol fuel was used by the previous owner the internal wiring could have lost it’s outer jacket & shorted.
