i dont know how many months now that iv noticed this clicking sound like a playing car in the back wheel of a bicycle. but only hear it when going 35mph and slower with windows down and when i pull into my back drive way area where there are fences on each side of me echoing the sounds better. also seems to be more noticeable when i step on the brakes coming to a stop. so have no idea what it could be.

today driving home from work, got on the highway about a mile from where i started the truck. got on the gas and was in the 3k rpms rang just trying to get up to speed on the highway. normally it will shift threw the gears and in fourth youll feel and notice the torque converter lock around 40ish to 50ish mph depending on how hard your pushing down on the go peddle. well today it just sat around the 3500 rpm rang and i noticed it was not locking. a few miles down the highway it finally locked and it did fine the last 10 miles home with no irregular issues.

im gonna check the ATF fluid this weekend and see if maybe its low? but im not leaking it so idk? any thoughts out there? is the clicking sound related to the transmission? its got a new front drive shaft and the truck drives very smoothly down the road and highway.

 

well took the D2 out for a quick run down the highway for a few exits and cruised at 70 mph, everything running normal. also i may be exaggerating that clicking sound. and its more like a rattle, and more noticeable when hitting the brakes, just maybe it sounds like its coming from the rear of the car. iv never changed out the rubber thing on the rear drive shaft so i should probably change that and see if that does something for me.

 

Were you able to resolve the rattle? I think I am having the rattle like you described. Where is that coming from? thanks

 

That clicking sure sounds like a driveshaft with no grease in a U-Joint. It could also be something with a dust shield possibly rubbing a rotor or with the brakes if it only happens with the brakes applied.

Not sure how a bad rotoflex joint would sound, but you can inspect it for cracks (some cracks are normal) but if it's got chunks missing or cracks large enough for a penny to slide into = it needs to be replaced.

 

Thanks I will check those parts you mentioned but recently I have observed that mine is coming from the front. I hear like gears are rattling when slowing down. I have no way to test it because it happens only when slowing down about 20mph to stopping even if I shift the gears to neutral when slowing down. It does not happen when the car is not in motion, so no way to hear the rattle. Its a rattle kind of clunking. Ill try to install a recorder tomorrow underneath the truck to record the clunking rattle.

Other kinda famous rattle from a LR is from the cat's rattling internally right before the guts die and become disconnected internally from the housing.

 

Often some make a clicking/rattle noise on certain surfaces caused by worn Watts linkage bushes at the rear. It sometimes sounds nearer the front end than it actually is.
