code port on 95 disco

There are different standards for engine fault codes ODBII and ODBI. ODBII ports are under the steering wheel and you need a scanner to read them. I was under the impression that you do not need to have a scanner to read the ODBI codes but I'm sure someone who knows for sure will hop in and clarify for you.
I could be way off but that is just my impression from the different posts here.

OBDII is '96 and newer. You are OBDI. To quote AK Rover from a recent post - "OBD1 has a box beside the passenger seat that will give you the trouble codes without the need for a separate reader. It's nice and a lot more convenient than carrying a OBD2 reader like a lot of Rover owners do. Problem is if you can't decode then it is useless, jst like OBD2."

Must be why I can't find it. I have a 97 part car and the port is obvious-must be the ODBII. The check engine light came on when I was changing/bleeding the radiator fluid (runs fine), the anti lock light cam on when I flushed the brake fluid (still seems to work) and the SRS light has been on since I purchased the car two months ago. Mainly just trying to figure out how to turn them off or if its something significant.
