Default Code Reader

Sorry if this is asked somewhere else, but if i searched for code reader or code scanner i got tons of threads about codes people were getting. I also wasn't sure if that is even the right name for the tool.

Anyway, I wanted to know if there was a specific code reader or scanner that is recommended for discos. After running into issues with SAI, Misfires, bad mass airflow sensors and making a trip down to the local auto parts store to get a read, I'm starting to think this may be a tool I want to purchase.

What would you want to recommend. The ones at the auto parts store seem pretty generic and am am guessing I want/need something that gives me a little more feedback and can be used in the future.

Your thought?

Unless you are willing to spend $750 plus for starters, no there is not. Most scanners will not read 3 Amigos, SRS and SLS codes.
I went to http://www.canobd2.com/Products/Tools.aspx read up on their scanners, picked a 3130 as my choice and then purchased it at Amazon for $134, it is a great overall scanner for nearly all vehicles and most peoples mechanical abilities.

At Disco Mike's suggestion, I just bought an Innova 3130 off of Ebay, $75 plus shipping (used). Costco has the Innova 3100 for $80. Good unit but it will not give you the live feedback like the 3130. Mine hasn't arrived yet, can't wait to get it and try it out. Phil

What about the Hawkeye? It's on sale now for $585 at Atlantic British.

Sure, if you want to go stimulate the economy, the newest version is a pretty good unit and will help with SLS, 3 Amigos and a number of other features.

Disco Mike, is the 3 amigos light reset tool that we discussed last summer, is it available now.

The Hawkeye is a decent product and it does much more than ABS but for 584 you get only one vehicle type.
