Default code reader?and side marker?

I am wondering what it is I need to buy to be able to read faults and reset lights etc for a 2001 discovery 2, I read it somewhere and it wasn't an OBD reader it was something else.
Secondly The side marker light on the front fender has come loose and before I break it trying to fix it can somebody explain how it is held in place please.
thanks guys and all the best.

Your thinking of either an Hawkeye or a Nanocom, or possibley the autocom.

Default Code Reader - Autel AL619

I did a ton of research last fall and settled on this Autel unit. Main reason is it is supposed to be one of very few that will read and clear the ABS related three amigo codes. After doing the modulator mod, it cleared the codes with no problems. Otherwise reads all the basic codes you would expect and will do SRS too but not for Land Rover. Anyway, one of the more economical units that will do Land Rover specific manufacturer codes. Bought mine on Amazon for about $150 I think. Hope this helps.

Edit- just realized after reading your second post that you are looking for a more specialized device as ralphobell cited above.

Default Reader "x"

Thanks for the replies, please keep info coming. Here is where my wife and I sit. We love 2 vehicles, Saabs, will buy another soon for around town, they have never let us down, we only ever buy used so that says a lot for the saabs. We just recently bought the LandRover and we are getting the same feeling from it, it is a special vehicle, one that will get us where we need to go, and still be able to do more then we will ever ask of it. It is like a saab in that I feel as if they enjoy it when they are worked on, almost for lack of a better term, they have soul. Therefore we have decided that even if this one had something go wrong we would buy another. So, I want to piece of equipment that will do everything, I do not want to look back a year from now and say, DAMN I should have just gone all out and bought "X" because it would have done this and that. SOOOO, Let me know what you would buy for a home garage, not professional $10000 machines but one that you know is solid, accurate and can do more then needed.
Cheers guys

i would also say the Hawk-eye, the only down side to the Hawk-eye is you must pay for programming for each additional model. for instance i now have 2 DII, it will read both.
but i had to pay for additional programming for my p-38 Gems. so if you use it on a lot different models it can add up. but it is a wonderful tool
