I am just thinking out loud here...
A GEMS engine sparks on every up stroke, so once on compression and again on the exhaust stroke.
A bad fuel temp sensor can cause a rough idle.
A bad VSS can cause rough running and lack of power.
The crank sensor on a DI almost never fails.
The cam sensor on a Disco almost never fails.
The alarm system on a Disco has a starter and fuel pump interrupter.
The coils on a DI almost never fail.
The ECU gets cracks in the circuit board and can cause all kinds of trouble.
The valve train can get sludged up and not work properly if you run the wrong grade of gas and dont change your oil regularly.

Do your compression test, when that comes back fine look into the ECU for cracked solder joints on the circuit board.

I think it is something simple.
