Default Coil help

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to check to see if my coil pack is working? I have a 2001 DII with a few problems. The codes on the dash told me I was not getting spark to 1,3,5 cyclenders. One would think a bad coil. I have totally taken off th IM and all attachments to get to the coils.

Thanks
Hokie

I assume you tried new wires and plugs? That is usually the problem and most people here use magnecors here is the best price:

They are expensive but because Discos have aluminum engines they run hot and you need good silicone wires.

Here is a little history on my vehicle. Bought this from a client, wifes car since college, was told engine was blown. I found this to not be true driving car at 90mph with no smoke from tail pipe. Besides that, started with running computer check, found codes, replaced plugs, but not wires. No compression in #2 cyclender. like I said, I had to take it apart any way to get to valve covers. Check firing orders, and wires appears to be cheap. Someone must have changed them, real poor quality, thin. Just seems funny that 3 out of 8 cyclenders have bad wires. Thought there might be a way to check coil before going to parts store.

You need to replace those plug wires, it is VERY common for more than one plug wire to go bad.
get the Magnecor's or do the job again in a month.

So what you guys are saying is that coils are not testable? I will order a new set of plugs tomarrow morning. They do need to be replaced. Can you guys recommend a good code scanner that will also allow me clear my codes as well?
I still have to check the #2 cyclender compression problem. Planning on removing valve covers tomarrow night after work. I am hoping I only have a stuck valve or two.

Thanks guys
Hokie

www.apexperformance.net has the best price on the plug wires.
As far as we know there is no way to test coils to see if they are good or bad.
You can go to Harbor Freight and get a cheap OBDII scanner that will read and clear trouble codes.
I bought my scanner off of e-bay, MechanicDoctor was the store, it reads live data too, $70 or so with shipping and is upgradeable though the internet.
