Question Coil Pack replacement question...

So I'm getting codes for multi missfires in cylinders and going to replace the coil packs and wires..

I have seen how big of a pain in the *** this is going to be so I've tried to think of alternative ways of doing this. Would it not just be easier for me to unbolt the motor mounts and lower the engine? Wouldn't that give me plenty of clearance for the job? is there anything that would prevent the motor from coming down?

Also, my "2004 Disco2" has an "2002 P38 Range Rover" motor in it. Are the coil packs the same?? What brand and what wires are best?

It would be way easier to just remove the upper intake manifold. You can easily remove the coil and wires once its out of the way.

I just did both of these jobs last week, back to back. Removing the intake manifold and getting to the coil packs that way is MUCH easier than removing the motor mounts, and much safer.

I forgot to mention that when I'm driving the truck as long as I don't press hard on the gas the check engine light will not Flash and it doesn't seem to misfire but as soon as I give it any gas it'll start running rough and misfiring and if I let off the gas it will go back to running okay. If I'm careful about it I can usually get to where I'm going without the engine check engine light flashing.
does that indicate that maybe it's something else other than the coil pack?

Reading the codes will tell you more about what's causing the problem than trying to guess based on those symptoms.

Sounds more like a vacuum leak to me, or perhaps a fuelling issue. If it was a coil or wire it wouzldnt usually be affected by throttle. That said, if you've never done coils and wires do them next time you have the intake off. The el cheapo eBay coils work just fine. Have for me and a hand full of other members.

Scan the codes. It will figure out exactly which cylinders are missing and may give you more info such as an injector or fuel pressure issue.

How long have you had the flashing engine light? It's possible that you burned up one of your catalytic converters, and that flow is restricted enough to bog the engine when you put your foot into it. I had a flashing engine light that would go away, rather than get worse, when I accelerated hard. It was fixed with coils, wires, plugs. Always a good route in any case but I'm betting your is something else.

+3 on the codes though.
