Default Coil Replacement

Yesterday I started in on changing the coil packs on my '03 Disco II. I was becoming more and more prone to fault codes for cylinder misfires. Specifically 1 and 7. I changed the plugs and wires to no relief. I pulled off the intake manifold and swapped out both coil packs. (Whoever designed the coil pack placement should be shot by the way). Unfortunately, I should be shot too because I didn't write down the wire/coil pattern before I removed them. (I assumed it would be in the D2 Book). Here is the question:

I hooked the wires up as shown in the book. Unfortunately, no go. It will fire, but it runs like hell. Here is what the D2 book shows as the wire pattern to the coils:

My concern is that the picture is misleading, at least to me. It appears that the wiring to the coil in the photo is as if you are standing behind the vehicle, as it actually mounts. Can anyone verify this. Next question, the firing order. Is this firing order as you are looking at te vehicle from the front end? Is the right bank the driver side r the passenger side?

Any help would be greatly apprecated.

Looking at it again, the manual states this is the wiring pattern:

That means the wires actually have to double back on all of the cylinders. If this is the correct pattern, they are showing the plug wires going to the wrong side of the vehicle.

Try this, it works and may be easier to read from.

We went thru this with our 2003 and would also suggest you check to be sure the coil plug connector (black) is not swapped with the IAC Valve (Grey). Both connectors are interchangeable.

The link below has a good description and a picture of the coil as view from the rear of the engine.

Thanks for the feedback! I am certain that the wiring is completed correctly. Now I have one of the following issues:

1. Bad wire (just replaced them all)
2. Bad Coil Pack - replaced both of them, but I've heard of crazier things.
3. Bad Plug - Just replaced them.

I can get it to start, but holy hell does it sound terrible. It'll barely run at all now. I've pulled the intake off twice now to verify the wiring is correct and that the plug boots are seated. At this point I'm about to roll the windows up, fill it with gasoline, and smile at it as it burns to the ground.

I would recommend one more check of the IAC Valve and coil. Ensure the IAC Valve is connected by a grey terminal and the driver side coil is connected by a black terminal. I mixed these two up and the results are similar.

The IAC valve terminal reaches and does plug into the driver's side coil.
