Jap bikes are great, grew up riding Honda, love Honda, BUT then I discovered European dirt bikes around 2003, holy $hit, night and day difference on build/parts quality and engineering. I'd take a KTM woods machine any day over a jap bike. Back to Rover, I've never driven anything that feels like a Land Rover, the steering, the heavy stable and capable feel it has off road, AND all the creature comforts. They are a luxury vehicle that can really take you through some awesome countryside. All one has to do is watch some youtube videos of Discoveries doing crazy crap in stock form and you'd be sold....

I'm already sold on Land Rovers.
Friend had a 94 or 95 about 20 years ago.
Lived in SC, all sand, mostly flat.
The one hill he could find was so steep, that I didn't think the front tires would even roll on to it, without digging the front bumper into the hillside. Let alone not drag over the top.
Street tires. That Disco crawled up and over like there was no hill. I was in disbelief.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, and I finally bought one.
I like how it sits, drives, handles, it's definately a unique vehicle. I'm hooked.
Just wish you could put it in 2wd on the road.

Never been on a KTM either, but I hear good things about them, street and dirt.

KTM's woods bikes come with:

Steel braided brake lines
Hydraulic clutch
Brembo brakes
Excell rims/hubs
electric start
gripper seat covers
stator for headlight (some models)
o-ring chain
pro taper style bars
engine skid plates
radiator guards
1/4 turn gas caps

My last KTM was 2006 model, and I haven't had a bike since 2010, so I know things change with the manufactures' of bikes, like fuel injection is a standard now, and maybe the jap bikes have stepped up there game?? idk. Talk about off thread....

Cool stuff, wish I could ride a few of them.
I like all but the gripper seats, I need to be able to move around easy. I hate when the seat holds my pants in place...and I still slide in them.
Off topic, I don't care. I started the thread, and already got good answers.
I can talk/ride street/dirtbikes all day.
So go ahead!

The new yamahas with the reverse mount engines and under-seat tanks are phenomenal, for track use anyways.

Personally, I've never ridden anything in the woods that I liked better than my '01 rm125 lol, can throw in around like a bicycle.

Latest R1 I've ridden was a 2010, I think.
Crossplane engine(uneven firing order).
Early drive by wire, lightswitch on/off throttle response at low rpm, not impressive. I hear that can be fixed with some ecu tuning. No low to midrange power either.
I like a 250 2-stroke, woods or track. Power everywhere, and instant. Hafta keep the 125s wound up tight all the time, but I am a gsxr man.
I want another 1k, but don't have time or money for it now. I do have a Yamaha 660 Raptor money pit project now, and a 350 4x4.
The Land Rover was just what I needed...something else to sink money in that I don't have at the moment, lol.

never been on an FI R1, was reffering to their newer 250 dirt bikes. never really been a yamaha fan anyway.

thats why i love the 125's lol, you feel like a hero when you can make a whole lap with it pinned wide open the whole time lol.

Rebuilt an '03 GSXR 1000 last year that turned out to be a fun ride but the zx12r im on now is my one true love lol. Second in line is the RSV Mille, really jonesing for another one right now lol.

Oh, gotcha.
I like Yamaha 4wheelers, but not a fan of their dirt or street bikes either.
ZX12s are cool bikes, but don't see them much anymore.
I've never ridden an Aprillia, but I would like to. I love the old Suzuki TL1000R, V-twin, lots of torque.
Later gsxr1ks are much better, even the 05/06 was a big step up from the 03/04. Came real close to putting a gsxr1k in my 660 Raptor frame, but kinda came to my senses. I'm 40 now, and haven't been hurt in a few years, which is really nice. I tend to get carried away with speed.
I can only imagine cruising trails in the woods, and nailing 2nd or 3rd gear from a 20-30mph roll. As you know that's around 70-100mph in just a few seconds.
Sounded like a good way to smack a tree sideways. Wife and I have a 6 year old daughter. Ever since she came along, I don't really recognize myself. Being somewhat responsible and thinking about the consequences of my riding, street and dirt, lol.
Nothing better than railing corners with a knee down and 100mph standup wheelies!
I've stayed off dirtbikes for quite a few years now too, figure I'll live longer, or at least be able to keep walking. You're right too, a pinned 125 is alot of fun around a track...if you can keep it there.
I also don't really want to be rich, but it sure would be nice to be able to afford a few fast toys, and lift this Land Rover!

Funny...Im almost 42, have a 2.5 year old daughter, and no bike. I ran these bikes through my 20's until 35 years old. Elsinore CR450R, YZ490, Husky 610, CR500, XR600, YZ450, KTM 450. It's funny how you mentioned grabbing a handful of throttle on big bore bike and the speed you gain is not realized until the next corner!! I used to get myself in trouble on my CR500 a lot with that, but I was also king of the hills, could climb just about anything....When you get on a small bore bike, the amount of throttle you get to play with is fun, and the lighter feel is nice too. Im getting close to buying another bike, but not sure what I want, it's got to have a license plate, but still fun in the dirt.

Yeah, I havent owned a streetbike in over 3 years, sucks.
I love to climb hills too. The steeper and taller the better!
I'de like a street dirtbike, but I think it would get me in trouble. On a 1k with a quiet muffler, you just twist the throttle and vanish, with a street dirt bike, not so much.
I'm respectful of others property, but there are some hills and jumps that are pretty tempting, lol.
My friend sold an xr600 and got a street legal Honda 250 dirtbike a few years back(2013)
The newer 250 feels as strong as the old xr600, and is lighter. It has some stupid safety in the ecu though. I'vd tried everything, and I can't buy a wheelie on it! Even a 1st gear redline clutch drop does nothing.
