Confused about power steering fluid
Getting ready to replace my power steering fluid (02 Disco) and research on this forum gives conflicting advice. Some insist that ATF should or could be used and some say power steering fluid.
I've even been told in passing by a mechanic whom I trust to use ATF because "regular power steering fluid will rot out the seals." Never had a chance to ask him about that statement and as far as I know PS fluid is what's been in there for 146k.
I think I have to go with PS fluid (Lucas) since that's what Rave tells me to do. Am I missing anything obvious?

I've been using Pentosin fluid, it seems to work really well. Pump runs a little quieter with it.

I use Royal Purple full synthetic Max Ez for the last 6 years and a half bottle of Lucas power steering stop leak. Its been great and does not wear out seals and hoses. You can find it locally @ O'Reilly Auto parts or Pepboys only.
I'm about to exchange the fluid and rebuild the power steering pump this weekend.
