Default Considering buying '01; even after repairs, good deal?

Hello again. Fairly new member to the forum, have done a lot of research. I go back-and-forth on getting a Land Rover. I have found a 2001 discovery with 86,000 miles on it. It needs a head gasket and the headliner. The owner says it is in otherwise good shape. The asking price is $1500. 2001 is not the year i would like, but even considering it needs a $2500 head gasket repair and $500 in other miscellaneous repairs, would this not still be a pretty good deal? After doing an inspection, of course.
Many thanks.

personally, I don't think that is bad, if body and interior are in good shape and those are in fact the problems. that is only because I would do the repairs myself. '01 is a preferred year, for me. I'd check, but it probably has a cdl nipple on the transfer case....that's a plus. and headliner and head gasket can be diy for a tiny portion of that $2500, but if it must be done at a shop, that is, in comparison, a hefty expense. you should shop and compare prices. savings can be had there. I am thinking $1800 is a gooderer number. You should do some on-sight hands on checking, before taking the word of a seller......even if its a goodbuddy.
besides, you are in ohio..... what else could you possibly have to do, if not a head gasket and headliner.

$1500 for the truck
$2500 for HG
$500 for Misc

you at $4500 for a truck with the CDL your over $5000 with the CDL your better than $5k that's 03-04 money

Come on Dusty - I'm SURE if that's what the seller said is wrong, then that's what's exactly wrong, and nothing else. Lol. Truly I would not attempt to do the HG myself. I can do miscellaneous stuff: tune-ups, brakes, etc. but am not equipped for HG job. Indeed, my '96 land Cruiser power steering lines rusted & due to my lack of time and desire, I took it to the mechanic. Plus i get frustrated when old bolts break off, etc. just not my bag; my tine is spent better eksewhere.I don't mind wrapping up $5k total in a truck if its worth it.
Drowssap: I'm not understanding you; are you saying that instead I should look at a newer vehicle for that money? I'm thinking '04's bring quite a bit more than $5k if they've had the HG done already. Additional thoughts?
Thanks again.

I think there is an 04 in the for sale section that need HG's and it is less than $600 right now

I tend to agree with you, AJ. '04 could be ready for some tlc, at that price. 86k is not that many miles, relatively speaking, for a 13yr old truck. I've got a '11 work turd with 220. 5k is not a bad deal, if you are in a vehicle that you want to be in.
