You don't need to pressure test it ,as it has already failed that test. It's leaking... now go find the leak..it maybe a hose but we will be guessing untill you get under there and check it. Do not let it get hot ever again....it's not like an old chevy 350 that can take the heat, it is aluminum and doesn't like to get hot.

 

Build your own pressure tester. Use a bicycle pump w/guage. Get a presta valve from a touring bike tire. Remove one hose from the throttle body cooler and plug the side on the throttle body using a short hose, bolt and clamps. Wrap tape on the presta valve, clamp tightly into the other end of the removed hose. Pump carefully with the bicycle tire pump....I think the coolant tank cap is rated at 15psi, shouldn't need much more pressure.

I found the leak. It's on the bottom of the radiator. I pulled this pic from the repair manual. The leak is from #22 (except on the LH side). Something to do with gear box oil? What is the function of this little thing? Do they fail often?

 

Well #22 is a rubber mount, that will not leak as it is not actually part of the radiator.
Your leak is probably where the tank mates with the core.

You have two options, replace the radiator or take it out and have it repaired.

 

Ok. I took the bolts out and when I lifted the radiator and put my hand where that rubber mount is, it came off in my hand the coolant poured out.

I'm going to replace the radiator. How do I get those compression hoses loose?

 

Nevermind. I got it out without removing those hoses. The area where the rubber piece is was repaired previously based on how it looks. The piece broke off and it was "glued" back on...so I guess the glue finally gave up! It looks like they melted black plastic around it.

Anyway, I pulled all the "glue" off and there is a hole.

I ordered a new radiator. Luckily I have another vehicle to drive while I wait!

G,day all, I am having a simluar heating issue as Ibrover. Why the hell someone would put a header tank lower then the top hose on a motor has got me buggered. My 1954 landy has a radiator cap on it and it works, my 1980 landy has a cap it works, my 1989 rangie has a bleed pipe that sits up nice and high gets all the air out on prob it works, 10 years on and my 1998 disco has f/all, no way of bleeding the air out easy, fill the system with water and the top hose will be empty every time. Need people to build cars with some idea of what the vehicle might have to do in its life, not just look pretty. yes I'm pissed off.
