Default Coolant Leak

My Discovery II year 2000 Petrol V8 has been experiencing a coolant leak. The coolant reservoir level dropped by an inch every 400 miles or in a week driving in town.

I have had it pressure tested and the garage said that the leak is from the component that I have ‘circled’ in green on the attached pictures. The component is in the location where the white arrow points on the full engine photo.

Please advice:
1) What this component is called
2) What is its function

Thank you.

1) Throttle body heater plate. http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/MGM000010KG.cfm

2) To warm the air as it passes through the throttle body.

Thanks for the picture of the component. Is it easy to replace without having to flush and replace the coolant?

Because it's as high as it is, you'll lose a little coolant but not much. Just capture what comes out, dry it, install and top it off. You'll also want to bleed the system. Remeber to use the right coolant -Dexcool.

You just need to replace the gasket to stop the leak. I hear that this is a common problem and that there is a repair kit for cheap at the dealer and you can fix it yourself if you are half way mechanical.

I would recommend replacing the bypass hoses that attach to the throttle body heater plate, they leak as well

I took the easy way out andsimply took a piece of 1/4' copper pipe and connected the two hoses together (make a "U" shape so that it fits properly). That gasket is problematic and you don'tneed the system so why bother. Hope that helps.

You dont need it unless you live in really cold weather. It is to prevent icing of the t-body.
