Coolant leak
Hey Folks:
New to this board, but big fan of the process. Belong to Aprilia Forum for my motorcycle.
I spent the morning trying to track down an antifreeze leak in my 96 disco. I checked all the KISS stuff, hoses, heater hoses, water pump weep hole, ect. The leak starts when the thermostat opens and coolant enters the water jacket. The leak is in the rear of the engine on the drivers side, and is fairly significant. It appears to be comming from somewhere above the transmisssion houseing but below the head gasket area. Thankfully there doesn't appear to be any coolant in the oil, and from what I can see it doesn't appear to be the head gasket...
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

to trace the problem, there is a floresent stain that can added to the coolant system that will show up with black light. I don't know where the freeze plugs are but that might be an idea. never had the problem so i don't know the where is on that problem. let me know what you find. hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff
Thanks for the help. Just got it back from the garage...at first they couldn't find it either. they called and asked permission to take the top off the motor, Intake and the like, and found the leak it was a blowout of the intake gasket in the rear on the drivers side...
They said they had never seen anything like it before on any vehicle they worked on, only mine (figures)
all in, it was around a $300 fix. Not cheap but better than a new head or a new motor..
Just thought I'd let you all know.
Thanks
