Default Coolant leak

I have a Discovery II 2001 V8. 135,000 miles but well maintained (weekly oil/water checks etc and regular servicing) and good runner. Had radiator/fan work 4 m ago and chest gasket relaced. Some recent orange oozing from lower down on block suggests head gasket problems y/n? (but no water in oil apparant) More immediately, yesterday dropped all coolant. Appears to be coming from hole in projection from engine which 'leads to' the fan (sorry, don'thave technical jargon!).Looks like regular drilled hole which has shed its plug. Does this sound feasible in which case is solution simple replugging or does it still sound like something more serious? If head gasket should allow <£1,500 y/n? Thoughts really appreciated. Chris

Stop driving your truck, get in touch with Atlantic British or your dealer and order the new replacement hose and a t/stat, actually at your mileage, you should replace all your hoses.
Once you get all the parts, then get back to me and I will walk you thru bleeding the system.

There are drain plugs on the side's of the engine, these can rust and leak. Sounds like that is the problem. Not sure where you can get a new drain plug though.
And being that you are probally in the UK, I can only point you to the dealer as I have no idea what you guys have for parts suppliers.

Thanks for this. Certainly sounds this may be the cause. Yes, I'm in UK so (hopefully) easier for me to get parts! Didn't realise your site was US based when I found it today -thanks to the US Landrover fraternity and I'm gladyou guys were up early this morning!!

lol Up early? It's 10:30am EST here in Michigan.
There are others on this site who are from the UK, as well as Spain, New Zeeland, Greece.
If you click on somebodys screen name you can see where they are from if they filled that out.
UrbanPanzer is from the UK, he might have a suggestion for you as where to get parts.
And it is probally just as easy for us to get parts as you.
www.paddockspares.com is a UK parts supplier.

drain plug or freeze plug?. Just curious is all. If it is a freeze plug, it baffles the mind why they'd put in anything other than brass.

They are drain plugs, Rovers dont have a petcock on the radiator like a normal car, so to drain the system they put plugs on the side's of the block. I do not know if there are also freeze plugs, I would imagine that there are, but I do not know for a fact.
So go back and look at the hole, does it have threads? If not then it is a freeze plug.
