Default Coolant Leak

I finally found where my coolant is leaking from. But, I have no idea what part this is. It is not leaking from the hose. There seems to be a crack in the part behind the hose. When warmed up, orange bubbles fizz from the crack (dexcool, I assume). Can anyone help me identify this part and give me an idea of repair costs?

Thank You!

Here you go!

Pick one!

You might want to take your throtle body off. It is much easier to clean the surface. Make sure you purchase the throtle body gasket in that case. They are only 2-3 bucks.

Thank you very much, boris_gti! With such a little price difference, should I go with the genuine part? Or does it matter?

They are probably equally as good, but since the difference is so little I would go with the original.

That is what leaked out on me and caused a HG job. I think there is an upgradable version for those...I would go OEM.

I just got done doing the exact same job on mine, I bought the heater plate kit from rover and it ended up being just a split hose from an overtightened hose clamp! I found out after I put the new plate on when it then was really spilling some coolant all over the valve cover then onto the cat. I just cut the section of hose with the split and stuck the thing back on it has no leaks now and a new heater plate for no reason, oh well it was going to leak anyway eventually right?

When I ordered mine, the guy from the store shipped the cheaper one for some reason. It worked out good anyways. I would still order the throtle body gasket as well because it makes the job much easier once you take the throtle body completely off. You can clean the throtle body at the same time as well.

  • Replacing the throttle body gasket is not necessary when you remove the throttle body. You can always cut one from a make a gasket roll. as I have removed mine and it went back on and came off without hurting the gasket.
  • While doing all this work, I would replace all the mini hose clamps with the worm drive style. 2 leaked after completing my throttle gasket job. I wish I would have taken the extra time to replace all easily visible the first time. You can skip the hose on the hard plastic lines on the coolant over flow tank.

Rover just released a 3rd. up-dated replacement, get it for a better chance of it lasting longer. Make sure you do a full coolant system bleed after replacing the parts.
