Default coolant leak, let me guess headgasket

Recently I have noticed a coolant smell from my disco. After I was underneath fixing the exhaust from the accident I thought that I would check around. I had the disco running and after looking for awhile I saw some smoke coming from the exhaust on the driver side. With my flashlight pointing up towards the hood I saw where water was gathering and maybe 2-3 times a minute a drop would fall onto the exhaust. It looks like it is coming from right below the manifold closest to the firewall. I recently did a coolant change after I noticed the smell. On the passenger side of the motor I see some orange drops also but can't tell where it is coming from b/c of the starter. I assume it is the same thing. My last oil change was about 500 miles ago and no sign of water in it. I pulled the dipstick and checked the oil fill today and still no signs of water. But on the undercariage where some of it has dripped it felt kinda oily. I have had a rough idle from time to time but no white smoke. Does this mean that it is probably just leaking outward and not in the cylinder yet. How long can something like this go. I was thinking that if I have to I might take the money from the accident to get this done. Why have a rover that looks good but can't run. I have toped it off once since changing the coolant but it wasn't more than 1/2" from the full line. After checking it today it looks like it went dowm about 1/4" from the full line. So what do you guys think????? Thanks again I love this forum.

First, more info on your truck..(Year, miles, etc.. )

My DII was doing the same thing. Likeyou,,I immediately thought of head gasket.. It turned out that I had a smallcoolant hose fromthe throttle body heater slowly leaking onto the intake manifold, eventually making it'sway to the back of the engine and onto the exhaust..

Also, i've heard of the throttle body heateritself leaking. If you can't find the leak, have the coolant system pressure tested, and let us know where exactly the leak is coming from..

Sorry about forgeting the info. It is a 2000 disco 2 with 102000 miles. I have already had the throttle body leak and fixed it about a year ago. It looks like it is coming out right below the exhuast manifold on the driver side. I can see the water gathering from there. I don't see anything on the top of the motor leaking at all. I hope this helps.

I have a 2002 Disco with 98,000and I had the same symptoms. I took it to a mechanic who specializes in British cars and he quoted me $2500 to do both head gaskets. does this sound about right?

$1550 is the going rate if you have secondary air, an emission control device, plus any shop expense if you need your heads resurfaced.
Make sure they only use a Rover gasket kit along with new Rover head bolts.
