Finally getting around to pulling things apart so that I can replace timing cover gasket. Going to go ahead and to the timing chain kit rebuild as well since I'm in there. However I was under the car to take the cross member off so I can take the sump down. I saw item in following photos that was loose almost off from its hole. What is this? Pretty large hole and concerned it might come out again if I just shove it back on as I haven't been doing any work in that area and it was basically off.[IMG][/IMG]

It(they) plugs the hole(s) used to access the torque converter bolts. It's function is to keep dirt and mud out (but they're missing on most that I've seen).

Thank you. Never seen anything quite like that and had a hard time believing that would be used to hold fluid in.

woo, hoo. So a phone call and $200 later my parts are on their way. Pushed land rover into the garage so I can get everything else off and on without worrying about the weather.

timing chain kit
throttle body heater plate kit
throttle body gasket
oil drain plugs
and a wiper blade kit so I can see where I am going when this is all done lol

Also have on hand the driver's side exhaust manifold and new bolts kit

With oil pan off, consider cleaning out the pickup, replacing the O ring for it, an a dab of locktite on the two bolts that hold it in. And if doing the timing chain, why not the oil pump gears at same time?

Well I was going to take a good look at the oil pump gears and was aware they might need replaced but didn't plan to do it unless I saw wear and tear.

I will take a look at the pickup and pick up an o-ring. I'm at atlantic british website now because I need rivets and a couple of metal clips for the window pillar I had to take off to replace the corner drip moulding. I had all three metal clips and when it came off I hear two of them fall. However, they must have fallen in somewhere because I never found two of them. I don't look forward to trying to get that thing back on. My otherside is loose from the window buy I may just use some black silicone as I don't want to take the other one off if I don't have too.

Default oil pickup o ring

Can you get the o-ring locally? went to atlantic british last night and they want 10 bucks to ship 3 rivets and 2 metal pillar clips. If I can find the 2 pillar clips I will just get the rivets from lowes and that just leaves the o ring for the pickup

You may spend more time driving around searching for it than shipping or dealer markup. But should be able to find one if selected carefully. Just don't want the pump sucking air.
