Spike,
You've got a stock D1, what do you use as an attachment point for the hi-lift? Wheel strap?

Saw a guy driving around Marin county in a P38 RR with hi-lift strapped to a Thule rack and one seriously disfigured running board.

Best,
Dave

Well to get out of that situation, which was pointing up a very steep grade while driving in sugar sand, I had to stick my Hi-Lift into the trailer hitch receiver.
I jacked up the back of the truck just enough to remove the log and then put chunks of dead logs under the rear wheels.
Dug out the fronts and used more logs to make "ramps".
Locked the CDL in lo (which is where I should have been to begin with) and drove out, once I was ontop of the hill I parked it and went back and collected my gear and filled in the ruts.
Now I have a ARB winch bumper so it has recovery points on it.
But there were 2 things that got us stuck that day, a buried log and I was not in lo range.
Here is the log.

And here is the other side of my truck, you can see how the log stuffed the wheels into the wheel well on one side while the other side was pushed down.

I use U-bolts to clamp my jack to the floor of my SD rack.

EDIT:Even if I had a winch there was nothing to hook too, no trees, big rocks, nothing in front or in back of me for 50+yards. Either up the hill or down, nothing.

The ATR's were a good choice.
I think you'll like them.

I have ATR's on my 04 for about 30k. Other than some sidewall cracking, i'm happy with them.
