I've actually done this 3 times already this year, the last time the water was so deep it broke a wake on the base of my windshield. (just let me clarify that the waves washed over my hood and broke wake, not that the water was so deep my hood was completely under water)
But I dont have anymore salt on my truck.

I thought spraying bar and chain oil worked great. It was super easy to do, very little dripped off (I sprayed almost a gallon) and it turned the rust black. Unfortunately after about 3 months it needs it again (although I've only sprayed it once so far, it may last longer after multiple coats).
