Cost of Drive Belt
I just purchased an '03 Disco with 41k and am loving it. It still has a warranty until December but I don't have the past maintenance info on it. So I took it in and asked for its 30k service. They called me and said that it had already been done, which is good news. They also suggested that I go ahead and get my 45k service while it was there and that was going to cost an additional $220 for a Drive Belt replacement. My question is, is that a fair price or should I do it myself? Also, is that something I should be paying for at all, or should that be included in the service?
Here is a link to the belt you can purchase yourself... looks like you can save some serious money!

I don't know if that is something included in the service or not as I have never owned a Rover under factory warranty. These belts are not hard to change... just release the pressure on the tensioner pulley, put the new one one (make sure it's routed correctly), and let the tensioner go and you're all set. Should be like a 10 minute job... I don't know if the Disco II is the same design as the Disco I but even the fan shroud has a quick release top on it for easy access to the belt. I'd do it myself if I were you.

Some one at the dealer ship is full of ****, the belt is replace as part of the 45K service that Rover pays for. I would suggest you call and speaker with the service manager to get this resolved. As for the cost, usually $38 for the belt and $50 labor.
Let us know what happens. By the way, I still have my paper work from when the 45K was done and it does include the belt.

97DISCOIDAHO,
I've got the belt for $28.25 at my site (www.eurotekapg.com). I agree with Disco Mike --the labor is usually .5 hour, and that cost varies of course on what the shop hourly labor rate is. Here in Northern California, the independent shop rate is about $125.00, while the dealers are now up to $150.00

Thanks guys. I'm gonna call the dealer and mention I know poeple that got that belt included in the 45k. If they still refuse to do it, I'll just install it myself. I'll let you know what they say.
Ok, I called the dealer today and now they are telling me that its the service altogether that is going to cost $230.00 because Land Rover puts a time estimate on when you can get your 45k service. And even though I only have 41k on the car, I have exceeded the time limit???
